Globally, approximately 25% of land is covered by forests. In contrast, Pakistan has only 3% tree cover, and Karachi’s figures are even lower. This scarcity of trees has contributed significantly to environmental degradation, rising temperatures, and associated health concerns among the city’s residents.
To date, CSF has successfully planted approximately 2,000 trees in various parts of Karachi. For this purpose, CSF has deployed dedicated vehicles, gardeners, and drivers, and remains committed to scaling these resources to increase its impact.
Importantly, CSF follows a model where trees are only planted in locations where a local team is available and willing to take ownership of ongoing care and maintenance. CSF have currently a fleet of 3 dedicated plantation vehicles for Karachi. CSF has also established a nursery in GDAP to ensure a consistent supply of plants of good size for sustainable plantation. These plants are currently 5,000 in number and will be provided free of cost to all meritorious teams in Karachi for massive plantation campaign.
So far, plantations have been successfully carried out in areas such as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, and North Nazimabad & Bahadur Abad area in coordination with respective Union Councils and town administrations.
CSF aim to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the city’s environment.
